Friday, 8pm. Doors open at 7:30pm

Three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone will be here at Princeton to answer questions following the screening of his documentary portrait of Fidel Castro, "Commandante". "Commandante" was shelved before airing on HBO last spring, and has never been publicly viewed in the US since. The documentary was filmed in February 2002, when Oliver Stone traveled to Havana to meet with Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Among the subjects discussed are the Bay of Pigs invasion, President Kennedy's assassination, the Cuban missile crisis, religion, allegations of torture and government repression of homosexuals, and the Elian Gonzales custody dispute.

Movie Screening: "Looking for Fidel"

Thursday, 8pm

McCosh 46

"Looking for Fidel" is a new Oliver Stone documentary on Cuba, now airing on HBO. In spring 2003, following a wave of hijackings, three hijackers were arrested, tried and executed in Cuba. At almost the same time, the government also arrested, convicted and imprisoned more than 75 political dissidents (including several independent journalists) for as long as 25 years. For the first time since his government cracked down last year, Fidel Castro speaks out on why Cuba has dealt so harshly with those it considers a threat. Directed by three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone. "Looking for Fidel" was privately screened for the Council of Foreign Relations.
