Mission Princeton in Africa seeks to develop young leaders committed to Africa’s advancement. To accomplish this, we offer opportunities for service through fellowships with a variety of organizations that work across the African continent.
History In 1999, a group of Princeton alumni, faculty, and staff launched Princeton in Africa as an independent affiliate of Princeton University inspired by the University’s informal motto, “Princeton in the Nation’s Service and in the Service of All Nations.”
Today PiAf has developed partnerships with leading organizations working throughout Africa. Our Fellows have worked in numerous fields including:
· humanitarian aid · public health · education · conservation · post-conflict reconstruction · social entrepreneurship
Working with our partner organizations, we match Princeton’s highly qualified and motivated graduating seniors and young alumni in yearlong fellowships.
Princeton in Africa creates an excellent opportunity for both partner organizations and Fellows, where organizations enjoy access to an exceptionally motivated and talented group of young people, and Fellows gain a unique experience in Africa that translates into a lifelong commitment to African affairs and service.
Princeton in Africa is committed to offering opportunities on a need-blind basis. While an affiliate of Princeton University, we are nevertheless independent and not funded by the University. We rely on the continued generosity of corporations, foundations, and individuals like you to make these fellowships possible. By supporting Princeton in Africa, you are not just impacting the life of one individual, but lives within our own communities and across the continent of Africa.
By the Numbers · Number of PiAf alumni: 200 · Number of countries in which Fellows have worked: 28 · Number of organizations with which Fellows have worked: 40+ · In the 2009-2010 fellowship year: 25 Fellows are working with 14 organizations in 16 countries
Board of Directors Princeton in Africa’s Board of Directors and Foundation Board are comprised of dedicated and diverse individuals who are committed to African affairs and who have decades of experience both working in Africa and mentoring young leaders.
