The
Program
in Near Eastern Studies provides students in any
department with the opportunity to study the languages,
modern history, and contemporary institutions of the
Near East. (For the program, the Near East is defined
as the entire Arab world and the present-day states
of Iran, Israel, and Turkey.) The program offers an
undergraduate certificate in combination with a student’s
departmental concentration. At the graduate level, the
NES program offers a two-year, multidisciplinary course
of study that leads to a Master of Arts. Doctoral students
in the departments of anthropology, economics, history,
Near Eastern studies, politics, or sociology may supplement
their training with a coordinated program in the three
above areas. Students from other departments who have
an interest in Near Eastern studies may enter the program
by special arrangement with the director.
