History
The Princeton University Figure Skating Club was created by two freshman figure skaters in 1994. Aline Attiyeh and Michelle Toering recognized a need for private ice time, lessons, and competitive opportunities for Princeton students. By the time the two graduated in 1998 they led the PUFSC through two annual shows (...Got Ice? and Hooked on a Feeling) and Princeton's first annual figure skating competition. In addition a Synchronized Skating Team, led by Caroline Gaffney, was formed.
In the 1997-8 season the PUFSC was undefeated in its three competitions, at MIT, Princeton, and at the Garden State Classic Precision Team competition. The PUFSC won Princeton's Club Sport of the Year Prize for the 1997-1998 season. We continued working hard in the 1998-1999 season with several competitions and a winter show, Ice Ice Baby.
The 1999-2000 season led us to Boston for more competitions as well as Cape Cod for the Synchronized Skating Classic and Detroit for Collegiate Synchronized Skating Nationals. We also performed in a Winter Exhibition as well as our spring show, Y 2 sKate.
In the 2000-2001 season, the Synchronized Skating earned second place at Sectionals in Buffalo, and tenth at Nationals in Colorado Springs. Our skaters competed at our own competition, MIT, and Delaware. And we put on a sold-out show, Lights, Camera, Axel! in the spring.
Our synch team continues to compete at the sectional and national level, and our skaters travel to intercollegiate competitions around the east coast. We are all eternally grateful for Aline and Michelle's hard work and that of Caroline Gaffney, Melissa Vap, and Denise Ng. Without them, none of this would have been possible.
Alina and Michelle, the club co-founders, share a hug at beautiful Baker Rink.
