WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS

Fall 2003

Dear New PUGE member:

On behalf of the Princeton University Gospel Ensemble and its executive board, it is our pleasure to welcome you as a new member of the ensemble and to offer thanks for your enthusiasm and interest in the group.  We are glad you have decided to join us as we continue to do our part to enrich the spiritual life here at Princeton.

The ensemble was founded over twenty-five years ago and reformed shortly thereafter.  Our principal objective is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through the diverse ministry of gospel music.  In addition, we provide, for one another, the spiritual support and encouragement that is so crucial for those who wish to follow God's plan and to be effective emissaries for Him on campus.

We offer two annual concerts–one during each semester.  They are the focus of our efforts, during which we present our message in a concentrated and heartfelt manner.  As frequently as possible, we invite other gospel groups to join us in worshipping and praising God.  In addition, we sing at several university-related events, ranging from Black History Month activities to the University Hallelujah services.  We have also performed at nearby churches and various other community locations.  More substantial trips are in the works, and we encourage you to join us in energetically and prayerfully continuing in the path that God has set for us.

As far as rehearsals go, the ensemble meets twice a week from 6:30 to 8:00pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Rehearsals are 1.5 hours long provided that everyone arrives on time and starts promptly.  They are held in the Chapel Crypt, located in the basement of the Chapel.  It is essential that every member attend as many rehearsals as possible.  If we are unsure of the words we are singing, we are incapable of effectively reaching our audience.  Moreover, as stated earlier, reaching others with the Good News is our principal objective.  To make a long story short, come to each rehearsal ready to learn and prepared for worship.  If you cannot attend a rehearsal, or if you must arrive late or leave early, please e-mail Keita at krose@princeton.edu.

We will work with each of you, both musically and spiritually, to help you achieve your full potential.  PUGE is a choir that seeks to grow.  As such, we always value your input and your ideas.  If you want to be an officer or take on a more active role in the choir, please speak with Calida.

Once again, we want you to know how happy we are that you have decided to join us, and we extend our warmest welcome to you.  Remember, you are just as important to the group as anyone else.  Don't hold back!  We want your advice, so don't hesitate to bring your ideas to the attention of an officer.  Once again, WELCOME!!!
