Princeton Student Pugwash sent three students to the Seventh Annual Student Pugwash USA National Conference on Science and Social Responsibility at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., over fall break in 1997. The conference, which over one hundred students from over thirty different schools from around the nation attended, featured speeches by luminaries ranging from Prof. Joseph Rotblat, the co-winner (along with Pugwash) of the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize, to M.I.T. Professor George Rathjens, the current Secretary-General of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs. The conference was an enormous success: we met many enthusiastic students and teachers, participated in thought-provoking discussion groups, and brought back a lot of good ideas for the campus Student Pugwash chapter.
