On Wednesday, February 18th, 1998, Dr. Robert Jahn, Director, Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Laboratory, presented a talk sponsored by Princeton Student Pugwash entitled Where Mind and Matter Meld. Many from the capacity crowd at the Rocky-Mathey Theater stuck around for a good hour after the speech to talk with Prof. Jahn and two other representatives from the PEAR Lab, Brenda Dunne and Arnold Lettieri, Jr.
After presenting a brief historical background and current status of the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research program, Prof. Jahn described three studies that bear on the relationship of engineering and human consciousness: anomalies arising in human/machine interaction experiments; anomalous acquisition of information about spatially and temporally remote geographical targets; and theoretical models which complement the experimental studies. He concluded with an overview of the contemporary scientific climate vis-a-vis anomalies research, and touched briefly upon potential technical applications and the broader implications for human culture.
