::: Mission

The Princeton University Table Tennis Club encourages players of all skill levels to come and play at practices in a casual environment where they can have fun and improve their skills.

The Club's mission is:

The Club meets three times a week in the Group Fitness Room of Dillon Gymnasium. If you have not played in the Club before, simply show up at practice. We have paddles available in case you do not have your own.

If you have any questions/comments or want to be added to our mailing list, please e-mail us at puttc@princeton.edu.

::: Practice schedule

We play in the Group Fitness Room in Dillon Gym. It is located up the stairs to the right upon entering the main court area. You can reach the room by calling (609) 258-3529. Please use this number only during the listed practice times.

Practice times for summer 2006 are as follows:

Wednesday
Friday
Sunday
6:30 PM - 8:45 PM
6:30 PM - 8:45 PM
2 PM - 5 PM

::: Membership fees

Membership dues for 2005-2006 are as follows:

Students
Faculty and staff
Community members
$12/year ($9/semester)
$20/year ($15/semester)
$2/night

New students, faculty or staff can play up to two times for free before having to pay. Faculty and staff can choose to pay $2/night instead of the yearly fee if they prefer.

We use these fees to cover our expenses for equipment, etc. You can pay in person at practice, using cash or check, preferably cash.

::: Dillon Gym access policy for PUTTC community members

Due to Dillon Gym policy, non-University members will most likely be asked to pay an entrance fee ($10) or purchase a facility pass to enter the building. The entrance fee can be waived under the following circumstances:

  1. There will be a list of up to eight (8) community members who will be eligible to enter the Gym for free. USATT members ONLY are eligible. Those who are currently on the list have already been notified. It will be solely at the discretion of Club officers to determine and update the names on this list.
  2. Additionally, there will be four (4) wild cards per evening (USATT members ONLY) who will also be eligible to enter the Gym for free.
  3. Those taking a part in this deal will have to present their USATT membership card at the front desk. Please be aware that under this policy, you are considered as "coaching and training partners" for students at the Club. It will be expected that you are friendly to the students, play matches with them and provide them with some advice.
  4. Those who are not members of the USATT will not be eligible to gain free access to the Gym and will thus most likely have to pay the $10/night access fee at the front desk or purchase a facility pass.

Please contact Steve Wallitt (Happy1912@aol.com) with any questions.

::: Activities

We usually use up to six tables at practices. A table tennis robot (Newgy Robo-Pong 2040) is available as well, and can be used to improve your game. Please note that it will not be used on crowded days.

Our Club currently runs a ladder, which allows all members to compete against one another in a friendly ranking system. We might occasionally give rewards to well-performing players.

PUTTC generally hosts one NCTTA meet as well as a major tournament every season. The Club recently ran three of its own Open tournaments, and also hosted the 2005 and 2006 Garden State Open.

As a member of the Mid-Atlantic Division of the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association, we compete against other schools in the region at least twice a year. You can find out more information about Princeton's NCTTA team in the appropriate section of the website. While all students may try out for the team, the caliber of competition is currently very high. Besides official NCTTA competition, we will try to participate in friendly, informal meets with other schools in order to give all interested students an opportunity to compete.

The Club currently also offers free coaching to students on Friday evenings, given by Judy Hugh. In order to be eligible for coaching, you must be a member of the Club, and must show up to practice at least on a semi-regular basis.

::: Note for prospective students

Princeton University does not give scholarships for table tennis or any other sport. However, Princeton recognizes and supports athletic accomplishments and welcomes student-athletes with excellent academic qualifications.
