Author/Name and Subject Heading Search Results

Results from an Author/Name or Subject Heading search are normally displayed in sets of 25. To change the default number of records per page, change selection on the dropdown box. The headings index displays the number of titles associated with each name or subject that matched your search request. In the left column, references to related names or subjects may appear.
Click the or icon to display the previous or next group of headings alphabetically. Only one heading and its associated titles may be viewed at a time by clicking on the heading. To return to the headings list, click on the button located at the top of the page.

Displaying a Record

To display the titles associated with a heading, click on the underlined heading. A title list will display. Clicking on an author heading displays the title and publication date for each record. Clicking on a subject heading displays the author, title, and publication date for each record. Only one record may be viewed at a time by clicking on any hyperlinked word in a row of the title list table. To return to the title list after viewing a record, click the icon at the top of the page or click "Titles" located in the status bar.

To begin a new search, click on the icon at the top of the page or click on "New Search" at the bottom of the page.

Title List Display

Results from a search are normally displayed in groups of 25. To change the default number of records per page, change selection on the dropdown box. The title, author and publication date, location, call number, and status appear for each citation. For serial titles, the date shown is the first year the title was published, NOT the first year of the library's subscription. Use the arrow icons at the top or bottom of the screen to move to the previous or next screen. Use the Sort By dropdown menu to change the order of titles displayed.
Click on to restrict the search to specific critieria.

Keyword(s) or Boolean Search Results

Relevance

Results of a Keyword(s) or Boolean Search display in order of decreasing Relevance, as determined by a relevance algorithm. The most relevant titles display at the top of the list. As the titles become less and less relevant to the search criteria, there will be fewer dots in the Relevance column.

Holdings and Description Displays

Holdings Display

To display the Holdings, click the underlined title. For additional information about the citation, click on the Description icon.

Description Display

displays everything in the Holdings display plus notes, table of contents, hyperlinked subject headings, etc. For Keyword(s) or Boolean Searches, the search terms you typed is displayed in italic text.

Displaying more citations

If there is more than one record associated with the title you selected, you can view the remaining records by clicking the icon.

To view previous citations, click on the icon.

Printing/Saving/E-mail Options

A title must be marked in order to print, save or e-mail it. From the title list, click in the box next to the title’s number. Click on

to save marked records BEFORE going to the next screen to view more titles.

MARC Format

MARC (MAchine-Readable Cataloging) Format displays the record in "coded" form. This format is a communications standard used to transmit bibliographic data among computerized systems.
