BADMINTON

The Badminton Club plays throughout the academic year. Meetings are quite informal, and we operate under an open door policy: anyone with access to the gym is welcome to play. As a result, the quality of play is quite varied, ranging from beginning to very high. Almost anyone wishing to join will be able to play competitively with someone of their own skill level. Non-students are required to purchase a Facilities Permit available in Room 3, Dillon Gym. At practices we play singles and/or doubles (depending on the number of people present) and drill together, with the help of our coach Steve. The club provides nets, birds (nylon), and club racquets to those who need them. During the year, we usually play a friendly match with Rutgers. Depending on interest, we may also attend the Ivy League tournament sponsored by Yale.

Visit the Badminton Club website for more details.

Practices are in Dillon Gymnasium.

BASEBALL
Only receiving official club sport status last spring, Club Baseball will use this year to build membership and develop contacts at other schools throughout the Northeast. The skill level is equivalent to a JV team, though we encourage and hope that anyone with an interest in the game will join us at one of our informal practices. During the fall, we will hold intra-squad scrimmages once a week in addition to a weekly practice. In the spring, we will practice twice a week and play what should be about a 15 game schedule against other club teams and local community colleges. We hope to see you out on the field so that you can help us to build the club baseball team into one of Princeton's finest programs.

EQUESTRIAN

The Princeton University Equestrian Club offers English horseback riding lessons at Phoenix Farms for all levels. The fee for one semester of instruction is $195.00 and includes 10 one hour group lessons. Princeton owns horses for the students to ride in lessons. Lessons are organized by the coach according to each student's academic schedule and experience level. Students carpool to and from the barn. A lesson is approximately a three hour time commitment to get to the barn, tack up, ride, untack, and return to campus. The rider should wear long pants and a hard soled shoe with a heel. The club provides hard hats. Opportunities are available to lease a horse, and/or show in this area for riders who have previous experience and wish to be more active in their riding. Phoenix farm is a 17-stall barn in Hillsborough, approximately 20 minutes from campus. It offers full care board with turn out and indoor facilities for year round riding.

The Princeton University Equestrian Club offers intercollegiate team competition for all levels of rider. (At least one semester of prior instruction is recommended.) Princeton is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IS). We compete in 4-5 shows per semester in NJ, PA, and DE. Each rider and the team as a whole accumulates points throughout the year toward qualifying for Regionals. From there, riders qualify for Zones and finally Nationals. A rider's division is determined by previous experience and is specifically defined in the rules. The divisions range from walk-trot classes to 3'6" over fences classes. The team members carpool to the shows. Everyone rides the host team's school horses in the show by drawing a name from a hat for each class. The team tries to cover all IS show expenses for the riders. Members usually loan show clothes to other members who don't have their own. Our team hosts a show every other year. Throughout the year, the team also holds fund-raisers, study breaks, and other group activities.

Lesson Sign-ups are held in Dillon Gym during Physical Education Registration. Look for announcements in the Daily Princetonian for the dates. At sign-ups, look for a meeting announcement. At the meeting, we will complete membership forms and the first show entry.

Visit the Equestrian Club website for more details.

FIGURE SKATING

Princeton University Figure Skating Club gives students the perfect opportunity to combine a top-notch education and their desire to keep skating in college. The club consists of every level skater from beginner through senior and provides around 25 hours of ice time each week available at the on-campus rink. There are several professional coaches in the area who can come in and work individually with skaters in freestyle, moves, and dance. Club members also have the opportunity to compete in intercollegiate competitions all over the East coast. These competitions provide the opportunity to represent for Princeton in a low-key environment. Each year, we host an intercollegiate competition. In addition, we have a collegiate synchronized skating team, which is a lot of fun and something most club members do. We skated with 16 skaters last year and made our second trip to Nationals. We also have one or two exhibitions a year and a large spring show. The club is entirely student run and each year grows in size and enthusiasm!

LACROSSE (MENS)

Typically, we have 10-15 games per season (Spring), at which point we advertise the team and recruit new players. Our season runs for about six weeks (Spring Break to House Parties). Prior to this period, we play two or three games in the fall with our veteran players. Additionally, we try to get Dillon/Pit/Windsor time before break and even one or two games. this is usually inhibited, as past years, by the weather. We carry a large roster, over thirty players, who can span a large range of ability. We do not have a coach and run on an officer system.

Club Hours:
Mon - Thurs 4:00pm
All practices are held on West Windsor Fields.

LACROSSE (WOMENS)

Women's Club Lacrosse is a relatively new, expanding team. Though primarily a spring sport, loose practices are held outside in the fall, roughly twice a week. In the winter, girls get together to work out, go running, or work on stick skills. Generally, there may be up to two games in the fall - schedule flexibility is important to allow girls to participate in other club or varsity fall sports. During the spring, practices are more serious and frequent, with the team getting together three to four times a week. Games are also much more frequent. The team hosts, as well as attends, several tournaments. Each of these usually consists of four teams and usually three games in one day. Games are generally held on the weekends. Experience is not necessary, and many girls who have participated in other sports in high school are able to pick up stick skills with practice.

Club Hours:
Mon - Thurs 4:30pm
All practices are held on West Windsor Fields.

SAILING

WHEN, WHERE, AND IN WHAT?

You'll sail two or three days a week both in the Fall and Spring on either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. We meet on the steps of Dillon Gym at 1:30pm and you'll get back just in time for dinner. We practice in FJ dinghies at the Raritan Yacht Club, which is a 30 to 40 minute drive north on Route 1. During these practices you will learn more about racing sailboats than ever before. You will become very good at one of the coolest sports there is. You will never get an opportunity like this again, and when you leave college, you can keep doing it for the rest of your life. Best of all, no experience is necessary to start.

HOW?

Most regattas and our practices take place in two-person dinghies. That means that you get a partner (or we'll give you one), either skipper or crew. It also means that you can be competing against good competition very early even if you are a complete newcomer to sailing because you can sail with someone who knows the ropes. WE VALUE DEDICATION OVER EXPERIENCE.

TIME, MONEY, AND TEMPERATURE

The sailing team experience can require anything from a moderate time commitment (two afternoons a week), to a big time commitment (three afternoons a week and lots of weekend regattas). Play it your way. Our flexibility lets you treat it as a serious hobby or as a way of life. You pay annual dues and get a lot for the money, but we individually pay for gear and travel expenses for regattas. Yes, it does get quite cold, and yes, we do keep racing into November and start again in March. So yes, you will need gear to keep yourself warm. We will help you with that (used gear, group orders, etc.), but it usually requires an initial investment.

Club Hours:
3 times a week
Practices held at the Raritan Yacht Club, Perth Amboy, NJ

The Ski & Snowboard Team has fun both on and off the slopes and is a great chance to meet some very cool people! We hold dry-land practices a few days a week starting after fall break, which include jogging, ultimate frisbee and soccer.

We compete in the Mercer County Men's League which includes adult teams from the Central New Jersey area. Generally, we have a slightly better than .500 average in games in this league. We also try to schedule several games with other college clubs. A player can expect 5 to 10 such games a year. Recently, we have been extremely successful in our intercollegiate competition.
