11 December 2009. The Tiger Battalion held our annual Dining In at the Nassau Club in Princeton. This long standing military tradition differs from standard formal dinners in its lack of guests and the presence of a 'grog' bowl. Cadet Debra Cho showed a slideshow of Tiger Battalion exploits this past semester. During the dinner, cadets have the opportunity to make points of order in which they call out other cadets for past misdeeds to receive their creative yet just punishments. Class skits provide an additional opportunity to make fun of cadre and older cadets. It was all in good fun and an enjoyable time was had by all. Click here to see pictures.

Cultural Immersion Program in Panama
When people are asked about the country of Panama, they are likely to think of the Panama Canal. But, as I learned during a three-week cultural immersion in the country, there is much more to Panama than just the famous canal that links the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Panama City is a well-developed city, much like typical American cities, and the lush countryside relies heavily on agriculture and tourism to survive. During my stay in Panama, I learned the customs, history, and rituals of Panamanians as I interacted with the locals and the native peoples. As our group of twenty-five cadets, selected from universities throughout the United States, toured Panama, we were educated about and experienced first-hand how Panama has reorganized and furthered itself since the removal of American military personnel. We dined on local cuisine and were provided the opportunity to watch Panamanians dance some of the local dances in traditional dress. The trip was not only for educational purposes, but also afforded us the opportunity to help out local communities by participating in community service projects as we traveled throughout the country. These projects included visiting an orphanage where we provided them with child care products and played with the children; assisted with the restoration of hospital furniture; and painted a community gymnasium amongst others. Spending three weeks in a foreign country was an eye-opening, worthwhile experience; an opportunity of a lifetime.
