Kalinite is a colorless solid that is easlily synthesized from Al metal. If care is taken , one can obtain large octahedral shaped cyrstals of Kalinite. Here is a link to photos of large Kalinite crystals. Kalinite is also refered to as "Alum" or " Potasium Alum." Following the Back to Crystal Page link on this page, you will find information about the use of kalinite in Crystal Growing Contest.
For a general discussion on writing lab report, please read the "Reporting Lab Results" section in your lab manual starting on page 62.
For this lab report you need to a)write balanced equations for the formation of KAl(OH)4, Al(OH)3, Al2(SO4)3, and KAl(SO4)212 H2O, b)calculate the %yield for the reaction, and c) answer the dicussion question on page 17.
