Author Preference 
  LC does have a policy of "author preference" whereby we try to use an author's preferred form of heading, whenever known.   Normally this  amounts  to deleting birthdates from headings when authors complain, or choosing one  form  of usage over another at the author's request, rather  than choosing an entirely different  name.
