When cataloging a book published in Canada and
need to establish a personal name in connection
with it, the authority files of the National Library
of Canada (NLC) must be checked.
If the Canadians have established one of
their own authors already, we must follow their choice
of heading (cf. DCM C2).
The latest technology for checking NLC headings (more modern than DCM
C2) is to contact AMICUS, the Canadian online file. At
LC we telnet to it, and you may be able to do so from
your own institutions. You need a user-name and password to log on,
which your NACO coordinator may be able to supply. If you can't
check AMICUS yourself, ask LC to do it. .
Remember also that if what's in question is
a Canadian corporate body, you're not allowed to establish
it even if it's
not in AMICUS-- give LC the information in such cases and
LC ask NLC to establish the heading for us.
