According to the 1995 edition of LCC Class J, the number
JV8749 is specific to Israel-Palestine and works classed here
should now be cuttered only by main entry.
However, prior to the release of the 1995 edition, JV8749 was the
number for Middle East, other A-Z, and included
the following cutters by country:
.I8 Israel
.J67 Jordan
.K88 Kuwait
.P3 Palestine
.P38 Persian Gulf
Works classified prior to the release of the 1995 edition were
double-cuttered for place and for main entry. Since
the largest concentration of items
classified previously in JV8749 were cuttered .I8 and .P3,
that number was retained for Israel-Palestine, and subsequently new numbers
were established for Jordan (JV8749.5), Kuwait (JV8750.8), and Persian
Gulf states (JV8750).
