Liza is a Ph.D. candidate in the sociology department. She caught the dancing bug an at early age, which led to studying ballet for 11 years. She also has 18 years of classical music training, which has been invaluable for understanding the complexities of salsa music. Presently, she was part of Frankie Martinez's Ache performance project in NY during Fall 2008.

Liza has taught workshops in places as diverse as South Africa, Argentina, and Brazil. She has studied salsa/mambo extensively with Frankie Martinez, Johnny Matos, Eddie Torres, Shaka Brown, and PsyonMauricio Scott, and has been trained in the NY-, LA-, and cuban-styles of dancing. While living in Washington, DC, Liza performed with Clavekazi Sixth Sense and the Mezzlocutis Dance Company. Most recently, she's studied samba de gafieira, zouk with Renata Peçanha and samba with Carlinhos de Jesus in Rio de Janeiro.

She founded the Princeton Salsa Club in 2006 and along with Gonzalo has created choreographies for student performance groups.

Teaching the weekly classes is the highlight of her week.

Gonzalo is a Ph.D. candidate in the Astrophysical Sciences Department. He is originally from Uruguay, where he had a long dancing career including teaching, performing, and competing. In Uruguay, he studied salsa, afro dancing, and body movement at Promusica under the dancers Wilfredo Acosta and Franco Rocha. He has classical (ballet) training under Carolina Canalle. He continued his carear in the academy Montevideo Mambo. As a classical guitar player and dancer, he has a strong foundation in rhythms and musical structure. He enjoys a lot playing, dancing and listening to a variety of rhythms, including salsa, son, charanga, mambo, chacha, bachata, merengue, reguetton, plena, tango, boogaloo, blues and latin jazz.

In NY, he currently studies with Eddie Torres, Johnny Matos and Frankie Martinez. He has performed as part of Frankie Martinez's Ache performance project.

In Princeton, he has enjoyed dancing and teaching with Liza several different kinds of rhyhtms during the last 2 years. Both have performed in several events and choroegraphed student performance group routines. In order to master the body control and movement, Gonzalo studies ballet everyday of the week.

He really enjoys dancing salsa and will not allow anyone to get away without learning it!!!
