IBSS: International Bibliography of the Social Sciences , subscription database.

Unique Feature - Or Nearly So.

  • International Bibliography of the Social Sciences has the remarkable beginning date of 1951, and so shares with Sociologival Abstracts the ability to thoroughly search materials for twenty to thirty more years back than most other indexes, and still comes up to the present.

International Bibliography covers a broad range of the Social Sciences,  in the fields of economics, political science, sociology, and anthropology   It is compiled in the library of the London School of Economics and Political Science, which is reputed to be the largest social sicences library in the world today. It is based on an international selection of publications including indexing of over 2000 journals and 7000 books annually. About 30 percent of the records are for materials  in languages other than English, and more than 100 countries and 70 languages are covered. About half of the indexing for journal articles includes an abstract.

This database provides citations of journals, books, book reviews, and also chapters when multiple authors have worked on a book.
