Below is brief warranty information on computers available through SCI 2008-2009.  Warranties are offered through the hardware manufacturers and not the Office of Information Technology or Princeton University.

OIT's Hardware Support facility is an authorized service center for all of SCI's vendors. Warranty service can be completed by OIT's Hardware Support. When on campus, you can visit Hardware Support at the OIT Solutions Center in the Frist Campus Center, or by calling the Help Desk at 609-258-HELP (4357).

Dell Latitude

All SCI Dell laptop computers come with 3-Year Warranties. All Dell laptops sold through SCI include Complete Care coverage, which will repair or replace the laptop in the event of accidental damage (drops, spills, etc).

For support on your Dell laptop, you may contact either Dell (support.dell.com, 1-800-695-8133) or the OIT Help Desk. For international coverage information, see www.dell.com

If your computer requires a hardware repair, you should bring it to Princeton's OIT's Solutions Center or send it to a Dell repair facility.

Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro
All SCI Apple computers come with the AppleCare 3-Year Protection Plan, and an international warranty. Note: This plan does not cover accidental damage.

For support on your Apple portable, you may contact either Apple (www.apple.com/support, 1-800-800-APPL) or the OIT Help Desk.

If your computer requires a hardware repair, you may bring it to Princeton's OIT Solutions Center or send it to an Apple repair facility.

 

Models from Previous Years:

Apple iBooks and Powerbooks (2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2005-06):

All Apple machines sold through the SCI program include a 3-year AppleCare warranty. See above for contact information for a Apple repair.
If you don't know your AppleCare support serial number, please contact sci@princeton.edu to request this information.

Dell Latitude (SCI 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2005-06):

All Dell machines sold through the SCI program include a 3-Year International Warrenty and Complete Care coverage. See above for contact information for a Dell repair.

IBM Thinkpad T-Series:

All Thinkpad T-Series computers come with a three-year international warranty.

For support on your Thinkpad, you may contact either IBM (www.ibm.com/pc/support, 1-800-772-2227) or the OIT Help Desk.

If your computer requires a hardware repair, you may bring it to Princeton's OIT Solutions Center, send it to IBM to utilize their EZ-Serv repair facility, or bring it to any other IBM authorized repair center.

Thinkpad iSeries 1400 and Thinkpad A21e
Three-year hardware warranty from the manufacturer. 

In addition, during the first 30 days from the delivery of your machine, in the event of hard drive failure, OIT Hardware Support will provide the service of re-imaging the hard drive at no cost. After the 30 day period, this service is billable at their regular hourly rate. 

Extended warranties can not be honored by OIT Hardware Support.  Any extended warranties are offered by IBM Global Solutions (IGS).  Only IGS can perform repairs as part of that extended warranty.  While SCI purchasers are welcome to have OIT Hardware Support repair their IBM computers at any time, such repairs would be chargeable to the student unless they are covered by the original (not extended) IBM warranty.

All extended warranties must be purchased and activated within the first year of ownership.

IBM Desktop: PC 300GL
Three year parts, one year on-site labor limited warranty.

In addition, during the first 30 days from the delivery of your machine, in the event of hard drive failure, OIT Hardware Support will provide the service of re-imaging the hard drive at no cost. After the 30 day period, this service is billable at their regular hourly rate. 

These warranties are offered through IBM, and will be honored by IBM.  CUC, Inc., the SCI vendor, does not service SCI computers.

OIT Hardware Support is an authorized IBM service center.  As such, they will be able to perform all repairs, including those that would be covered under the standard warranties listed above.  Please contact IBM to identify other IBM service avenues while off campus.
