The annual Society for Comparative
Research Graduate Student Retreat was held at
Princeton University, May
9-10, 2003. The retreat was sponsored by Princeton’s Center
for International Studies, the Center for the Study of Democratic
Politics, and the Program in Political Economy.
The Retreat’s program consisted of 27 student presentations in
9 panels. Students were provided financial support on a two-tier
scale: $100 for students in the New York area (extending from
Philadelphia to New Haven), and $300 for students outside this
area.
University faculty were also
extensively involved in the event. Faculty
discussants included Christian Joppke (European University
Institute), Akos Rona-Tas (UCSD), Marion Fourcade-Gourinchas (UC
Berkeley), Miguel Centeno (Princeton), Nancy Bermeo (Princeton),
Nolan McCarty (Princeton), and Bruce Western (Princeton).
For the first time, the Retreat also held a dinner. Alejandro Portes (Sociology, Princeton)
acted as the inaugural guest speaker. |
