2007 Survey on the Future of Government Service – Some Commonly Asked Questions
Who is included in this survey?
About 7,500 federal program managers and administrators across the federal government have been contacted for this survey. The managers contacted were identified by Leadership Directories, Inc. (the publishers of the Federal Yellow Book) as program managers or administrators. This group includes career professionals and appointees across the federal government in both field and headquarters locations.
How did you get my name?
We obtained your name from Leadership Directories, Inc. (the publishers of the Federal Yellow Book) and include you in the survey because of your position as a federal executive.
Who is funding this study?
The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Department of Politics at Princeton University have provided the funding for this study.
Is my participation required?
Your participation is completely voluntary. Although you may skip over questions you prefer not to answer, we hope you will want to answer every one. Your answers will provide important insight into the backgrounds, political views and experiences of federal executives in the United States. Because of this, we take great care to ensure as complete a response as possible, including multiple mailings and telephone contacts.
Who will see my answers?
The answers you provide to this survey will be seen only by members of the study team. These individuals are bound by the conditions of the study to protect your privacy.
How will the results be used?
Your answers will be combined with those of all other survey participants and presented in aggregate form as tables, charts, and graphs. We expect to share our findings with the academic community, the Task Force on the Changing Nature of Government Service at Princeton University, and the general public, again in aggregate form only, as a way of improving our understanding of public service and how to best train the next generation of federal executives.
