If you have a Java-enabled browser, you should see a button to start the design assistant below. If not, hopefully it will prompt you to install the Java 1.3 plugin for your browser. If not, I guess you'll have to do it on your own. This has been tested with Windows and Red Hat Linux running IE 5-5.5, Netscape 4.76-6, and Mozilla 0.81.
Version 2.0b2
This is based on the version from a few years ago, but with a number of minor enhancements. For one thing, it runs in the current versions of Java! But also, the car description is a little more sensible when you add multiple identical items, you can configure a group of identical weapons at the same time, you can use component armor, the 1/3 spaces rule properly includes cargo space, etc. You still will need to be familiar with the rules, because it will let you do some silly things like put two turrets in the same location.
If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail me at ammulder@alumni.princeton.edu. I'll post any common items here. Also, until I get the submit feature working again, please just e-mail me any designs you want to share. I'll add them to our Stock Car Designs.
Can I download this program? Can I run it myself? Can I have the source code?
My agreement with Steve Jackson Games does not allow that at this time. Sorry!
How do I add a turret, rocket platform, or EWP?
Look under Accessories - there's a button for "Turrets" that includes all 3. It only lists the sizes your car can carry.
Once I create a weapon, how do I edit it?
Select the weapon from the "Weapons On Your Car" list and use the "Configure Weapon" button below the list.
If I create a weapon, and use the multiple weapons option on the Configure Weapon screen to indicate that I want more than one of the same weapon, how do I put CA on each weapon separately?
You can't. You have to create two separate weapons if you want to CA them separately. You have to create one weapon with the multiple weapons option if you want to CA them together.
I added component armor to an item, and then went back and changed the item (or the ammo for a weapon, etc.) and it forgot about the component armor!
True. CA is associated with a specific instance of an item, and if you change the item, the CA is gone. Do your CA last. :)
I added a weapon to my car, and then in the weapon configuration
screen I added more identical weapons or extra magazines, and the
entry for this weapon (or worse yet, another weapon!) disappeared from
the main description.
Either you were at 0 available spaces (so the design is illegal with component armor on the item) or the weapon with component armor causes a 1/3 spaces violation. In either case, it may not be the offending item that is dropped, but the last item to be added to the side or the vehicle as a whole. If you look, you should see the offending item in the appropriate screens (weapons, accessories, component armor, etc.) but it will not be included in the cost/space/weight calculations or in the main description. This will be revised later to just complain about an illegal design instead.
