About training with Princeton Shotokan

PSKC is a cozy, medium sized club of about 30 members dedicated to Karate, and eating well. The membership is comprised of a core of undergraduate and graduate students from Princeton, but a number of our guest members come from the greater Princeton area and from places as far as Philadelphia.

Our repertoir of techniques consists of mostly of blocks, closed and open hand strikes, and kicks. The techniques require maximum body power and application of stances, and do not consist of grappling/wrestling movements except during special clinics.

The level of knowledge to be imparted to club members is very high. PKSC is affiliated with Mr. Masataka Mori of New York City, Chief Instructor of Shotokan Karate do, America. This organization is one of two U.S. based affiliates of the Japan Karate Association. Through Mr. Mori's organization, PSKC will have access to a body of teachers in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, who enforce teaching standards and impart knowledge on a regular basis through training camps and clinics. Consequently, even relatively new students are able to articulate the theoretical foundations of Shotokan Karate.
Note: The Japan Karate Association is the oldest and still the largest governing body of Shotokan Karate. To view their web sight, click ----> JKA

We emphasize tradition and focus - PSKC is probably the most traditional of the striking arts now at the University. This is determined by PSKC's extremely formal etiquette , conservative introduction to free sparring techniques, emphasis on fundamentals of the art for advanced as well as beginning students, and deep training in "Kata" or forms. As a corollary to its traditional nature, training is extremely rigorous.

No prior experience is necessary. Visit us at the gym in Princeton or contact:
Adriana Karagiozova
Dues are $90 per semester for students. (This does not include the price of a uniform.)
Uniforms will be required eventually, but not for the first few classes. The standard uniform for Shotokan is a plain, white, orthodox gi, which may be obtained through the instructor for a subsidized price (ranging from $30 to $100).
