Letter to the Princeton U. Treasurer
The following letter was sent by an undergraduate student involved in the divestment campaign to the Princeton University Treasurer on March 22, 2002.
Christopher McCrudden
Treasurer, Princeton University
401 New South
Dear Mr. McCrudden,
As an undergraduate student at Princeton, I am concerned that the University's endowment is invested in companies doing business in Israel.
Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the United Nations have thoroughly documented the human rights abuses of the Israeli army and
government against the Palestinian people over the past several decades, but especially in recent months. When Princeton realized that its investments
in companies doing business in South Africa were aiding the apartheid regime there, Princeton began the process of disinvestment. I think the same
should be true with Israel. I would formally request that your office: 1) produce a complete list of companies in which Princeton holds investments
which conduct business in Israel, 2) produce a complete list of banks which Princeton holds investments in which provide loans to the Israeli
government, and 3) disinvest from those companies immediately.
