"15 Years to Life" by Anthony Papa

Tuesday, April 5th, 4:30PM 302 @ Frist Campus Center

Tony Papa, author of 15 Years to Life , is came to speak to us on Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 @ 4:30PM in 302 Frist Campus Center. His talk was 15 To Life: The Road to Freedom and Reform of the Rockefeller Drug Laws.
The event was co-sponsored by BSU, Black Men's Awareness Group, and BAMN! and was funded by the generous support of the Projects Board, ODUS, and WWS.

The Daily Prince covered the event: Students Bring Anthony Papa to discuss Drug Policy Reform

Tony Papa's talk and story was very moving. It it absurd to see so many people go to prison, being seperated from their families, for non-violent crimes.

His story is that he passed 4 1/2 oz of Cocaine and got sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. It was his first offence and it was non-violent. Image hosted by Photobucket.com In prison he discovered art, and he was eventually granted a clemency from the governor after serving 12 years of his sentence.

These were the flyers.

March 6th, 2005 : We had a screening of Maria Full of Grace at Terrace Club. This was co-sponsored by LASSO and Accion. About 25 or so people came. About a dozen people stayed for discussion afterward. Good times were had by all! We might make Sunday night movie screenings at Terrace a regular club thing to do. Here are the flyers we used for the screening.
