If you would be interested in performing stand-up comedy with us, here are some basic
tips for how to go about writing a routine...
(Note: these are simply helpful suggestions, nothing more.)
Write, write, write... Write down right away any random ideas, situations, or observations that strike you as funny. Keep track of them, since your routine will later be shaped out of these scattered thoughts. Create bits Once you have some basic ideas, try to work them into bits by fleshing them out, giving them more substance. Some ideas work well as larger topics to joke about for a few minutes, while others work well as quick punchlines. Develop bits Go over these bits again and again, reworking them. Perform them out loud, fine-tuning the wording and thinking of funny additions. Note: you want bits to be as concentrated as possible; try not to waste words. Bounce your ideas off of friends or other performers. Be ready to take an idea in a completely different direction if that's what's best. Create routine Select the funniest, most promising bits and string them together into a 7-10-minute routine. Try to have each bit segue into the next as fluidly as possible; though this isn't necessary, it helps make the performance seem more natural and spontaneous. Try and end on your best material, if possible. Polish routine Finalize changes to the routine, and then memorize it for the show. Perform Have fun. Basic tips:
