ST Course Requirements Princeton maintains a distribution requirement in science and technology (ST). All students are required to take two "ST" courses. A laboratory is mandatory for any course that satisfies the ST requirement. A student with two units of advanced placement in a natural science will be allowed to take one laboratory course, and one ST course without a laboratory.

List of ST and Other Relevant Courses The list of approved ST courses with and without laboratory components offered in the fall and spring semesters can be viewed by clicking above. Those specifically developed for students who are majoring in the humanities and social sciences are grouped under the heading "Designed for Non-Science Majors," while those courses primarily intended for science majors but open to interested and motivated students from the humanities and social sciences are labeled "Designed for Science Majors." The Council also sponsors a variety of courses that address cultural and societal issues in science and technology. These are designed to encourage in students a lasting interest in science and technology and improve the level of science literacy among graduates in the humanities and social sciences. Such courses are found under "Other Courses of Interest with a Science Component," along with other courses which could be of interest to students who are not majoring in science or engineering.

Support for New and Upgraded Courses The Council provides support for new or upgraded lab courses in the various fields of science and engineering, that will enhance the science and technology education of non-science students at Princeton University. Faculty and departments who wish to obtain support for the development of new or improved science and technology courses (with or without a lab) should contact the Council. Call for Proposals for New/Upgraded Courses The call for proposals for faculty or departments issued by the Council on Science and Technology on October 5, 2000 in order to support the planning and operation of new or upgraded science lab courses intended primarily for non-scientists can be viewed by clicking on CP for Courses above. This new initiative wil help support the planning and sustained operation of such courses for the first five years. Faculty are encouraged to submit proposals by February 15 of each year.
