Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

We have an UHV STM (lower image) and an ambient STM (upper image) that allow for high resolution imaging and characterization of a variety of surfaces. The UHV STM is primarily used for imaging surfaces and monolayers at the solid-air interface in studies such as our topological insulator projects. Ambient STM is used to obtain high resolution images in our studies of physisorbed self assembled monolayers at the solid-liquid interface.
