Pull The Plug on Global Warming!

Toward a Climate Responsible Princeton

Pull The Plug Dec. '08 - Jan. '09 Climate change is a serious, global issue that has the potential to affect all levels of society in disastrous ways. It could lead to extreme weather, starvation and political turmoil, making disasters like Hurricane Katrina commonplace. We at Princeton need to recognize this and do our part to respond accordingly.

The Pledge

As a leading university and a yearly emitter of over 120,000 tons of CO2, Princeton has a responsibility to support the scientific consensus by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the goals of the international community.
1. I urge Princeton’s Administration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to:
  • The Kyoto level of 7% below 1990 levels by 2012,
        and
  • The UN Post-Kyoto recommendation of at least 25% below 1990 levels by 2020.
As a member of the Princeton community, I recognize my role in reducing emissions on campus. To show my personal commitment, over this Winter Break I pledge to “Pull the Plug on Global Warming.”
2. Before I leave for Break, I will:
  • Turn off all lights
  • Close windows and turn my thermostat all the way down
  • Unplug all my dorm appliances, including computers, chargers, and televisions
