TEACH (Trenton Education Achievement Homeless) (Trenton)
svcteach@princeton.edu

TEACH is an adult literacy program at the Rescue Mission in Trenton. Volunteers are paired one-on-one for weekly two-hour tutoring sessions, which focus on basic math and reading skills with the goal of preparing for the GED (high school equivalency) exam. Additional workshops are held on computer literacy and current events. The students are a combination of parolees, former prison inmates  and “walk-in” clients who have been released to a six-month drug rehabilitation program at the Mission before being paroled. Having these skills is critical for their re-entry into society, and they are usually extremely enthusiastic and appreciative.
