The University Brothers and Sisters program is one of the SVC’s oldest and largest volunteer projects. UBS Princeton matches University students with children referred by the Princeton Regional School guidance offices. Because most of the children in these programs have suffered some kind of loss in their lives, volunteers are asked to make a strong and extended commitment to their “little sibs,” averaging at least two hours per week. The relationship should ideally begin during freshman or sophomore year, and male volunteers are especially encouraged to join the program. Still, all interested students are strongly encouraged to apply! Once a match is made, the relationship is left entirely to the big and little siblings. The program is special in that scheduling is completely flexible, and the volunteers choose when they see their little siblings. Transportation is available through the SVC. In addition, the Project Coordinators organize many fun events. Last year, kids enjoyed group ice skating and rock climbing events, and a holiday party and swimming event are in the making for this year. We eagerly seek new volunteers! Underclassmen and men are especially needed, but all interested students should apply. If you are interesting is volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters, please print and fill out the application form available here. |
