As soon as we open registration, you will be able to register online by going to the Registration! section of this website. We recommend that you register as soon as possible to assure yourself a space! The Festival is limited to 200 people and preference will be given to students.
Yes, absolutely! We will put a note on the festival website when the registration for non-students opens.
You do not need to have a partner. The classes will be gender balanced and the partners will rotate all the time. You are encouraged to introduce yourself to complete strangers during the practicas and milongas to ask them to dance.
A limited number of places is available for students and their friends. Please indicate on the registration form that you need housing and we’ll do our best to accommodate you with one of our hosts. For questions related to student hosting, please use the "princetontango.housing -at- gmail -dot- com" address from the Contact section of our website.
Preference will be given to students, couples, or people who do not mind sleeping on the same couch. Please be prepared to bring an air mattress or sleeping bag.
Alternatively, you can consider couch-surfing. It's also free and there are a few hosts in Princeton.
It’s important to assess your level honestly and fairly in order to pick the workshop that’s right for you. Taking a workshop that is too advanced for you can be frustrating for both you and the other participants involved!
If you’ve been dancing for less than a year we highly recommend that you register for the intermediate workshops only.
The intermediate-advanced level is harder to assess, but you should register for these classes only if you feel absolutely comfortable with what’s being taught in the intermediate classes. In case you’ve been dancing tango every day for the past year, and you can do the moves taught in the intermediate classes in your sleep, then feel free to challenge yourself for the intermediate/ advanced track.
The advanced classes are mainly for the people who’ve been dancing continuously for 3 years and more, and who have no difficulty performing the moves taught in the intermediate-advanced classes.
Tango festivals are organized with intermediate to advanced dancers in mind. However, for Princeton students who are inspired to try tango for the first time and want to join in the fun of the festival, we do have a special class for you! Check the schedule for the Complete Beginner’s Bootcamp, a crash-course which consists of two consecutive classes taught by Robin Thomas. The Bootcamp is free for Princeton students! See the Schedule section or email us at princetontangofest -at- gmail -dot- com for details.
The Princeton Tango Club also offers series of classes for complete beginners with Robin Thomas, which run year long and are open to students as well as non-students. You are welcome to join us at the start of any new series!
Yes, absolutely as long as you have had at least one tango class and know the basics about following the line of dance (counter-clockwise).
You might also want to take a look at this handy manual on tango etiquette put together by our friends at the Yale Tango Club.
You should dress in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for the workshops and for the milongas you are welcome to come in informal clothes as well, or put on something more dressy. Basically, whatever you will feel comfortable in! If you are really curious, you can also check the photos from last year’s festival on our Flickr account to see what people were wearing.
If you’ve already taken a look at the above questions and the other sections of this website, and still haven’t found an answer to your question, feel free to send us an email at princetontangofest -at- gmail -dot- com from the Contact section for this site. We’re busy with festival preparations but we’ll do our best to get back to you ASAP!
