Are you ready to sing fun, fresh, female a cappella? Come audition for the Tigressions!
Tigression auditions are held for interested freshman and sophomore women at the beginning of each semester. Our audition process is simple, painless, and short - it should only take about ten minutes! After our President introduces you to the group, our Music Director will guide you through the audition. We'll start you off with some scales and arpeggios to warm up your voice and get a sense of your range. Then, we'll have you sing a few swells on single notes to test your ability to sing both loudly and softly. Next, you'll do some short pitch-matching exercises - the Music Director will play a few notes on the piano, and you'll sing them back to us. We'll also have you do a note-finding exercise - the Music Director will play a chord and ask you to sing the top, middle, or bottom note of the chord. After that, we would like you to sing a short solo of your choice. The solo can be anything from "The Star Spangled Banner" to "Happy Birthday," from a jazzy classic like "At Last" to the latest hit by Rihanna. Your best bet is to sing something that you're comfortable with and will show off your voice. Don't worry if you can't read music or have never spent time in a choral group before - several of our most talented members did not have any previous musical experience before joining the Tigressions.
If you have any questions about the audition process, please don't hesitate to contact Music Director Kyle Edwards at ktedward@princeton.edu or President Nina Bahadur at nbahadur@princeton.edu.
