The Papers of Thomas Jefferson

This volume is a comprehensive revision of the three paperbound indexes earlier prepared for volumes 1-6, 7-12, and 13-18, and it includes entries for volumes 19 and 20 as well. Entries have been corrected and rearranged within categories that are more widely recognized by historians and other specialized readers of the papers without detracting from ease of use for general readers. Full names have been provided for most persons, and some subjects have been redefined and collected within broader categories to facilitate use and improve accuracy. New entries have been added to reflect the wider range of interests of recent readers.

Cumulative indexes of this type are planned on a regular publication schedule as the series moves forward. Each individual volume, starting with Volume 22, will also contain its own index. Volume 21 will be an indispensable tool for those who own any or all of the first twenty volumes of the series.
