MIT Tournament Registration |
Here's a quick breakdown of how the tournament day will go:
Day Before (Saturday, Oct.17)
- Drive up to MIT in vans. We'll depart in the early afternoon.
- BEST TIME to bond with fellow teammates. We have tons of stories to share if you're interested in hearing about our adventures to past MIT Tournaments.
- Stay overnight at nearby hotel.
Morning (Sunday, Oct. 18)
- All sparring competitors weigh in.
- Forms competition: Only 2 girls and 2 guys in the black belt division can represent a school. If you would like to compete in forms, train hard and we will have a form-off in class closer to competition day. At MIT, all black belts must compete in KYORO. There is no limit to the number of color belt forms competitors.
Afternoon:
- Sparring competition: It usually begins around noon and ends around 7pm depending on how smoothly the tournament is run and the number of competitors.
- Teams consist of a lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight. Two of the three members of the team must win for us to advance.
- There are A through D teams depending on belt rank. A=black belts, B=blue and red, C=green, yellow, and white, and D=absolute first time competitors. Only A-C teams earn points.
- Please read the MIT tournament packet for more information about the competition and weight divisions.
Evening:
- We find a restaurant to eat, drink and be merry because we do not have to worry about weight anymore.
- Drive back to Princeton.
Generally speaking, it's best to fight in the lowest weight category available to you. The weight categories are as follows: Men -- (<145.0 lbs, 145.1-172.0 lbs, >172.0 lbs are light, middle, heavy) Women -- (<117.0 lbs, 117.0-137.0 lbs, >137.0 lbs are light, middle, heavy)
If you have any questions, please e-mail or come talk to us before or after practice.
