| Effects of human proximity and hunting on the mammal and dung beetle community |
|
In conjunction with Chris Kirkby, we found that sites closer to the nearest town had higher hunting pressure, lower mammal biomass, and lower dung beetle diversity and abundance. The hunting of large mammals could also lead to dung beetle extinctions and population declines, which could in turn disrupt the ecosystem functions performed by dung beetles, such as seed dispersal and nutrient cycling. |
