Spotlight On: Medical Supply Drive

Our mission is ambitious and may take years to complete. But that doesn't mean that we can't make an immediate impact on these communities in need. We are trying to raise money to buy items ranging from masks and fire-resistant gloves to basic antibiotics for those who have no choice but to pick through trash to make a living. The em[POWER] Rutgers Student Chapter is organizing a traveling art exhibit, with the help of Pehchaan (Princeton's Pakistani Students Association), the Pakistani Students Association at Rutgers, and EWB-Rutgers, featuring artwork and media from and inspired by the community in Kachra Kundi, including paintings done by a group of 8-10 year olds from Al Khair. The exhibit will open on November 19, 2009, at Rutgers University. If you would like to make a donation, please email us for information. And help spread the word. After all, we have over 10,000 pairs of hands to protect.

Donate some time: Join the team!

Donations are not just monetary! Would you like to help us out? Our project is multi-faceted and can be broken down into the following sub-sections:

While we are eager to have anyone jump on board, we are particularly looking for people with expertise in the following areas (as of 06.22.2009):

Donate some money: We need your help!

As you can see from the financial report, this is not a cheap endeavor. We are therefore applying for investment funding. In the meantime, any and all donations, particularly for the glove and mask drive, will be much appreciated. We hope to couple this fundraising push with events such as art exhibits or first-hand accounts of life in the landfills so keep checking back for more information. We will try to get a paypal account set up but in the meantime, you can email us directly if you would like to make a contribution. We are currently in the process of incorporating em[POWER] as a non-profit and registering for 501(c)3 status.
