Proposals for the Asian American and Latina Studies Programs

I. Establish a Center for Comparative Race/Ethnicity Studies, Cultural Studies

II. Permanent Programs in Asian American and Latina Studies, able to grant certificates

A. For the Asian American Studies Program:

To be implemented immediately:

  • 1 Work-Study Student Position
  • 2 Tenured Faculty Positions
  • 2 Tenure-track Faculty Positions
  • 2 Visiting Professors in the meantime
  • 2 courses in Fall 1995, one of them must be an Intro Lecture Course
  • Increase Library Holdings, at least up to 1,000 books

To be promised by the University for a full-fledged Asian American Studies Program:

  • Administrative Staff Position
  • Starting Fall 1996, 6 courses each year in Asian American Studies
  • At least 6 faculty members

B. For the Latina Studies Program:

To be implemented immediately:

  • 1 Work-Study Student Position
  • 2 Tenured Faculty Positions
  • 2 Tenure-track Faculty Positions
  • 2 Visiting Professors in the meantime
  • 2 courses in Fall 1995, one of them must be an Intro Lecture Course
  • Increase Library Holdings, at least up to 1,000 books

To be promised by the University for a full-fledged Latina Studies Program:

  • Administrative Staff Position
  • Starting Fall 1996, 5 courses each year in Asian American Studies
  • At least 6 faculty members

III. Establishment of Three Committees to Insure the Implementation of an Asian American Studies Program, a Latina Studies Program, and a Comparative Race/Ethnicity Studies Program

IV. Timely Implementation of Raboteau's Committee on Diversity and Liberal Education
