boot -a

The boot -a command allows the administrator to single-step through the boot process, and even enter alternative values for some important file and directory locations.

After starting boot -a, the system prompts the administrator for the following items:

  1. kernel file location
  2. system file location
  3. kernel modules directory
  4. path_to_inst file
  5. root file system type
  6. physical name of the root device
