The first step is to make sure that the
/etc/nsswitch.conf is configured properly and that your
name servers are working properly. If the problem continues, check
on the nscd -g output to verify that the cache hit rates are reasonable.
If the nscd requires tweaking, edit the /etc/nscd.conf file.
After the edits are in place, the
daemon can be stopped and restarted with the
/etc/init.d/nscd
script.
