Vishwesha Guttal Assistant Professor Center for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Karnataka, 560012.
Email: guttal@server where server=ces.iisc.ernet.in I have now moved out of Princeton! My Princeton website will no longer be maintained. Please visit: http://ces.iisc.ernet.in/guttal for the latest!
Starting Sept 5th 2005, I am at the Center for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institue of Science, Bengaluru as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this, I was a postdoc in the group of Iain Couzin at Princeton University and I work on various aspects of Collective Animal Behavior such as schools of fish, flocks of birds or marching locusts. In particular, I focus on the evolutionary aspects of collective behavior.
I did my PhD in Physics at The Ohio State University working with Prof. C Jayaprakash on theoretical ecology. In my thesis, I proposed early warning signals and predictive measures for abrupt and catastrophic changes in states of ecosystems (such as transition from clear to turbid water in lakes; desertification in semi-arid regions). This work won Volterra Award at the ESA 2008 conference (best student oral presentation in theory section).
I had joined OSU in Fall 2003 after completing my undergraduate studies in Physics at IIT Kanpur, India.
I used volunteer for Association for India's Development. Click here for Columbus chapter webpage.
