 16th and 17th Oct, 1999:  Kanpur-Haldwani-Debal-Mundoli

On 16th October evening the team left to Haldwani and from there to Debal (1218m) by Bus. From Debal, we caught some private bus and reached the starting point of our trek Mundoli (2134m) by late evening.

18-10-99    :  Mundoli to Waan  (2439m)- 14 Kms

The trail starts with a 2km steep climb up to Loharjang pass (2590 m).   The Nanda Ghumti Peak is visible from this place. Then the gradual climb down and climb down  for about 12 kms followed by a final steep ascent leaves us in Waan , with a total distance of about 14kms. Quite tiresome towards the end. About 6 hours journey.

19-10-99    :  Waan to Bedni Bugyal  (3354m) – 12 Kms

Almost  the whole trail is  steep climb up  through the jungles of the Himalayas.  After  about 6 to 7 hours journey we reach Bedni Bugyal . Since the place is at quite a high altitude there is no vegetation except grass in this place. Bugyal in the local language means Grazingland.  The beauty of the place is amazing. Many snow covered peaks  Trishul, Nanda Ghumti , Neelkanth, etc are visible.

20-10-99    :  Bedni Bugyal to Bagguabasa (4800m) – 9kms

Half of the group (myself, neeraj, tau, porter and jeetu) left early to start the trek. After initial gradual climb up and climb down for about 3-4 kms the snow covered trail goes very steeply (from Bistola) to reach Bagguabasa. Time taken was about 6 hours. The last trail is extremely sttep and tough.. This place was also covered by snow. Stayed in a stone shelter. Panoramic views of  Trishul and NandaGhumti along with Neelkanth , Hathi Parvat , Sameru Parvat , etc.

The trail was very difficult and the by the time we reached the weather was getting bad. The presence of snow on the track even made the things difficult. Even little bit of snow fall took place. The other half of the group was unable to reach baggubasa due to snowfall they encountered. .

21-10-99     :   Bagguabasa  to  Bedni Bugyal

Time taken about 4 hours. As hoped, they went back to bedni bugyal when it was to difficult to proceed further because of snow fall. The other half of the group was staying at Baggubaasa.

22-10-99      :  Bedni Bugyal –Ali Bugyal (3350m)-Didnam (approx 2300m)  -- approx 14 kms

The trail goes throgh bugayl for about 6 kms before steep  descent  through the jungle to reach Didnam.Time taken was about 6 hours.

23-10-99      :  Didnam to Loharjang pass ( 2590m)-approx 10 kms.

This trail joins the route of Waan to Mundoli after an initial climb down for an hour or so. Time taken is about 4 and a half hours. The team left Loharjang on 24th morning  to reach Kanpur by 25th early morning.
