| A program leading
to a concentration in visual arts is
co-offered with the Department of Art and Archaeology (History of Art
and the Visual Arts, Program 2). Students accepted
into this program take a total of 12 courses that are drawn from visual
arts and art history according to several distribution requirements,
and complete a visual arts thesis. This concentration is similar to
the art major offered at many colleges and universities, but allows
greater flexibility so that a student can focus equally on visual arts
and art history or emphasize one or the other while completing a visual
thesis. |
|
In addition, a Certificate
in Visual Arts is offered (similar to a minor at other colleges). All
independent work in the Program is carried out under the critical supervision
of faculty advisers. The junior and senior project artwork of concentrators
and certificate students culminates in an exhibition in the Lucas Gallery
or a screening at the Stewart Theater. All concentrators and certificate
students are expected to take the contemporary art seminar. |
