A series of visiting speakers – prominent artists, critics, and theorists – come to campus throughout the year under the auspices of the program. Some of these speakers are invited through the John Pozzi ‘78 Lecture Series, the Council of the Humanities or the Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. Visiting speakers typically conduct studio critiques and occasionally offer workshops. Recent workshops include: Zhi Lin on portraiture and identity, Vannessa Tran on landscape painting, Peter Dreher on conceptual still-life and the reexamination of the same subject, an empty glass, and Koji Kakinuma on contemporary Japanese calligraphy. Each semester, distinguished photographers visit the photography classes for a more personal presentation and discussion of their images.
