Accra Shepp is a photographer who has exhibited
in the United States and abroad. In 2006, he participated in
a show titled “Artificial Afrika” at Gigantic Art
Space in New York City, and he is working on a multimedia installation
for the city of Chicago for 2007. He is also completing a long-term
project documenting
tobacco farmers and laborers. His most recent solo exhibition, “In
The Loop,” was presented at the Chicago City Gallery in 2004.
Shepp’s recent group exhibitions include “Saturday
Night Sunday Morning” (2005) at the African American Museum
in Philadelphia and “About Face” (2004) at the Chicago
Art Institute. His work is represented in such collections as
the Museum of Modern Art, the Chicago Art Institute, and the
Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX.

In 1999, he completed
a Fulbright Fellowship in Indonesia. In 1997, he had a solo exhibition
at the Whitney Museum of American Art entitled “Tunnel Visions.” He
is also included in Reflections In Black and The Family of Black
America, Deborah Willis, 1999 and 1996. His work has also been
appeared in The New York Times, Harper's Magazine, Camera Arts,
and The Sunday Review in London among other publications. He created
the process of printing photographic images on leaves in 1992 following
the receipt of a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the
Arts. Accra Shepp holds a Master's Degree in Art History from the
Institute of Fine Arts, NYU with a concentration in conservation
of art. He holds a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art from Princeton
University.
