Principal Research Interests:
My research primarily revolves around the ecology and evolution of avian behavior, particularly that of avian migratory behavior in both tropical and temperate systems. My research integrates strong laboratory and field components: molecular tools for phylogenetic and population genetic analyses; and field data collected on morphology, habitat, and vocalizations.

In addition, I have recently expanded my research into the realm of microbial ecology where I use a novel genetic fingerprinting method to study avian plumage microorganisms in relation to behavior such as migration. I am currently working on a collaborative project that aims to quantify the effects of human-induced stress on the energy expenditure of highly endangered birds of Texas with the use of heart rate telemetry.
