Yavneh House of Princeton

About Yavneh

Yavneh is the Orthodox Jewish group on campus. We are a small and tight-knit community of between 20 and 30 students committed to Torah, Judaism and Jewish practice, the university, education, friendship, and open discussion. Although most of us have attended Jewish day schools, and some of us have spent a year or two in Israel prior to attending Princeton, we welcome students from all backgrounds. Yavneh students and community members span the Orthodox spectrum, and at the same time are very much integrated into the larger Jewish community. Yavneh holds three daily minyanim and various learning programs, and runs many social events such as study breaks, guest speakers, and holiday programs.

About the Broader Jewish Community

The Center for Jewish Life represents the special relationship between Hillel and Princeton University. The University-owned building is located across the street from the Campus Center and operates as a University Dining Hall, serving three meals a day on the regular meal plan. Hillel employs a full-time director and staff including a JCSC (Jewish Campus Service Corps) Fellow in charge of programming and outreach and a JLIC (Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus) couple.

The Center is home to Kesher (Reform), Koach (Conservative) and Yavneh (Orthodox) religious communities as well as an array of cultural groups such as Koleinu (an a cappella group), Nemayra (woman's group), Consider (a discussion forum), PIPAC (Israel advocacy) and Jews for Social Justice. Together with the Center for Jewish Life, these groups organize an array of activities and programs throughout the school year.
