Biography

I finished my B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in June, 2003, and PhD degree in Institute for Digital Communications, University of Edinburgh in March, 2007. My PhD project was fully funded by EPSRC, UK. I'm currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Department of Electrical Engineering, Princeton University. My supervisor is Professor H. Vincent Poor.

Others

I'm a film person, interested in modern cinema. My favourite western director is Stanley Kubrick. I own a film review site (Chinese) containing my movie reviews. I¡¯m also a fan of Hitchcock and Chaplin. ¡°Vertigo¡± and ¡°City Lights¡± are among my favourites. As for contemporary filmmakers, I like movies made by Coen brothers (they really learnt a lot from Hitchcock!). Some of recent Spielberg¡¯s film are also great, such as war of the worlds.

I also love European cinemas, especially those in the old times, e.g., French new wave and Italian neorealism. Later favorite ones include all pieces of  Krzysztof Kieślowski, especially the three-colors trilogy. Note: those are some quite serious pieces of art; you might find them boring if you are looking for some pure entertaining stuff.

I do not have a favourite Chinese director. Some of my favorite Chinese films in recent years includes ¡°In the mood for love¡±, ¡°Wu Jian Dao aka infernal affairs¡± (Martin Scorsese remade the film and won several Oscars, but that was not as good as the original one in my opinion), and several films made by Ang Lee and Johnnie To. My favorite Chinese actress is Maggie Cheung.

My favourite film critic is Pauline Kael , here is one of her interesting article entitled ¡°Trash, Art, and the Movies¡±.

I also love performing arts, such as film and stage acting. I used to perform on stage and won best actor awards in art festival back from college, high school and primary school. Occasionally I served as a model for photographers.

A larger and more focused version can be found here (not well ps-ed I would say¡­).Young people in oriental culture might appreciate the picture a bit more, as they might find the character reflects certain oriental senses of pride and aspiration, desire for the freedom and love of vagabondage, while all of these are share with them.
