Theme: Fluffy fusion of aromas: when chocolate becomes tropical.
Secret Ingredient: Caramel.
Special rule: Swiss National Day.
List of participants:
- Bob: An "O so fluffy chocolate cinnamon ice cream". Bob made no effort regarding the secret ingredient or the Swiss theme and ended up being penalized because of this, but should he have made some efforts to follow the rules, his "icy sin" had the potential to place a lot higher in the polls...in spite of Geoff Vallis' "ice cream can only be so good" attitude.
- Cyril: A most impressive "coockoo clock" cake filled with tasty chocolate and mango creams. One notes that Cyril's creation won the maximum points with regard to the swiss theme and the presentation (that is also in these categories that Jorge assigned most bonuses).
- Jennifer: A "quasi-criminal-so-it-was-good" and cushiony tropical chocolate wander: a chocolate and caramel (she claims) soft shell filled with cream and tropical fruits
- Laura J.: A delicious cheese cake topped with mangos representing the Alps and kiwis for the flats. This fruity Swiss topography was topped with caramel rivers and chocolate lakes (at least initially).
- Sara: A tongue twisting and mesmerizing mousse cake dessert pieces topped with caramelized macadamia nuts
Results:
The newly crowned Sayre Hall Iron Chef is pre-race favorite Sara, but we almost witnessed an upset victory by Cyril. Cyril could have won, but refused to sing and consequently missed out on the 5 bonus points for "performance". Jorge was assigning bonus points of his own (invoking rule #12) and Cyril had a greater total than Sara if one included Jorge's bonuses, but Sara had a greater total regarding the normal/original grading system. Since the bonuses were Jorge's own creation and didn't always reflect the consensus, it finally came down to the person with the most point in the "taste" category. This category was determined as being the most important in case of close calls.
