The IC 4 contest - March, 14th 2006

Theme: James Bond: Bold flavors with style and panache!
Secret Ingredient: Martini Flavors.
ONE OR MORE of the ingredients for a classic vodka martini can be used. They are vodka, dry vermouth, and olives. The entry can be in any category (appetizer, salad, dessert, etc.), but be prepared to defend its Bond-esque qualities.

List of participants:

  • Anna V.: Martini Pasta.
  • Cyril: 007 cake.
  • Kelly: Chocolate Truffles.
  • Sara: To Russia with Love.

Results:

An air of déjà-vu for this fourth Iron Chef. The voting system follows that of IC3 and the winner is... Sara edging out runners up, Cyril and Anna V.

Prize:

AN ASTON MARTIN!!!! Well, it turned out a real Aston Martin was a little out of Sara's price range, but the winner of this Iron Chef got a scale model of the Aston Martin that James Bond drove in the recent film version of Casino Royale (complete with Bahama lplates and unconvincing James Bond action figure!) PLUS a copy of the Ian Flemming novel "Casino Royale".

Kelly's Chocolate Truffles
IC4 winner Sara's To Russia with Love

According to Sara, this dish has a noteworthy origin. It was developed by Roland Mesnier, the executive pastry chef at the White House from Carter to Bush. When former President Reagan decided to throw a ball at the Russian Embassy, he asked Mesnier to create a dessert spectacular enough for such an affair, but which could still be made at the White House, transported all the way to Russia on Air Force One, and finished by local chefs at the embassy.
