THIS IS A PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION MEASURED AT ONE STATION IN THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA
IN GUAYMAS BASIN PLOTTED AGAINST DEPTH.
GUAYMAS BASIN IS SUBJECT TO HYDROTHERMAL INPUT FROM THE SEA FLOOR. THE SILL DEPTH OF
THE BASIN IS LOCATED AROUND 1600M. INTERESTINGLY, THIS IS ALSO WHERE WE CAN SEE AN INCREASE
IN ALMOST ALL PARTICLE VOLUMES (GIVEN A CERTAIN PARTICLE SIZE). NOTE ESPECIALLY THE INCREASE
AT THE SMALL END (SMALL PARTICLES).
THE VOLUME CONTRIBUTED BY LARGER PARTICLES ALSO INCREASE, BUT DOES SO MORE GRADUALLY, NOT AS A SHARP INCREASE
THAT COREELATES WITH THE SILL DEPTH. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE CONCENTRATION OF THE LARGER PARTICLES ARE AFFECTED
BY THE HYDROTHERMAL INPUT.
THERE ARE A FEW PROBLEMS WITH HOW WE USED/DEPLOYED THE LISST-DEEP. ONE OF WHICH IS THAT THERE IS ONLY SO FEW LARGER PARTICLES
IN THE DEEP SEA THAT THE NUMBERS WE OBTAINED ARE BELOW THE DETECTION LIMIT THAT WAS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN WITH OUR PROTOCOL.
WHEN THAT IS THE CASE, THE DATA ARE DISPLAYED IN WHITE ONLY. THAT IS, TO RECAPITULATE, THE PART OF THE GRAPH THAT HAS COLOR IS GOOD DATA,
WHILE THE PART THAT IS IN WHITE IS INFERED DATA.
